Automated sliding driveway gate installed on a Toowoomba property

    Sliding driveway gates & automation

Custom sliding driveway gates made to measure — aluminium and steel — with Centurion, ATA and Merlin motors. Toowoomba, Highfields, Ipswich and out across the Darling Downs.

    Sliding gate types

    Cantilever sliding gates

No ground track. The gate hangs off two large rollers bolted to a concrete post pad and slides clear of the driveway. First choice for most residential driveways — no track to fill with dirt, no wheel to seize.

    Tracked sliding gates

The gate rides a rail across the driveway. Suits very wide or very heavy commercial gates where cantilever runs get expensive. We install stainless-steel tracks with heavy-duty V-groove wheels for long life.

    Residential aluminium sliders

Powder-coated aluminium infill panels, vertical bars or slat cladding. Lightweight, no rust, kind to the motor. The default choice on modern Highfields and Glenvale builds.

    Rural & commercial steel sliders

Hot-dipped galvanised or powder-coated steel frames with mesh, sheet or bar infill. Built to handle wide openings, farm access and commercial security duty across the Western Downs.

    Motors & automation

We fit sliding gate motors matched to the weight, duty cycle and location of your gate. For most Toowoomba homes that means a Centurion D5-EVO (up to 500kg, solar-ready, battery backup) or Centurion D10 for heavier acreage gates up to 1000kg. Lighter residential gates run beautifully on ATA Boss GDO-11 v5, and myQ ecosystem customers can specify a Merlin Slide 600.

Every automation package includes remotes, safety photo beams either side of the gate, a wireless keypad or intercom option, obstruction sensing set up per AS/NZS, and solar or 240V mains conversion where the driveway can't be trenched. We wire up entry access loops, exit loops, GSM intercoms and video call systems on request.

    Safety, compliance & long-term reliability

Australian Standard AS/NZS 60335.2.103 requires automatic gates to include obstruction sensing plus additional safety devices — typically photo beams. We commission every gate to the standard, hand you the paperwork, and set up scheduled service so the motor, rollers, tracks, hinges and safety devices keep working reliably through Toowoomba dust, storm season and 40-degree summers. Family properties, aged-care sites and schools should also fit safety edges — we quote these routinely.

    Frequently asked questions

How much room do I need for a sliding gate?

A cantilever sliding gate needs a clear run along the inside of the fence at least 1.3 times the gate opening — a 4m opening needs about 5.5m of slide-back space. Tracked sliders need less clearance but require a level concrete track across the driveway. On tight blocks we often recommend swing or bi-fold instead — we'll check the site before quoting.

What's the best gate motor for a sliding gate?

For most Darling Downs driveways we fit Centurion D5-EVO or D10 for heavier gates. Both are Toowoomba-friendly (dust-sealed, solar-ready, battery backup) and carry a 3-year warranty. ATA Boss GDO-11 v5 suits lighter residential gates. We also install Merlin Slide 600 for customers already in the myQ ecosystem.

Aluminium or steel — which sliding gate material?

Aluminium is lighter (kinder to the motor and rollers), fully powder-coated and won't rust — the right pick for coastal-style architectural homes. Steel gates are stronger and let you go wider and heavier — the right pick for acreage, rural entries and commercial driveways. We fabricate both to your design or from proven shed-standard sections.
