    About B&D

B&D was founded in Sydney in 1956 by Brian Davenport and Doug Booth — the company name comes from their initials. They invented the residential roller garage door in Australia, and the original B&D Roll-A-Door is still one of the most installed garage doors in the country. Over almost 70 years B&D has become the dominant Australian residential brand, manufacturing Panelift sectional doors, Roll-A-Door roller doors and the Controll-A-Door range of openers.

B&D is now part of the DuluxGroup and operates from manufacturing sites in NSW and QLD. The brand is known for genuine Australian manufacturing, the widest dealer network in the country and a product range that covers every residential application from a basic shed door to a designer Aluminium door.

    Where B&D Fits Best

B&D Panelift is the right call for any modern brick or rendered home where the door is a major street-facing element — particularly in Highfields, Glenvale and the Toowoomba CBD where new estates demand a contemporary panel look. The Roll-A-Door Firmamatic suits acreage sheds, workshops and rural sites in the Lockyer Valley and Western Downs where curtain durability matters more than appearance. For storm-prone properties, pair any B&D door with a Controll-A-Door Diamond PD so you keep operation during power outages.

Common B&D Opener Faults, and What They Mean

The faults we are called out to most often on B&D openers across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, and what each one usually turns out to be.

The door starts closing, then reverses

Usually: Nine times out of ten the safety beams either side of the opening are out of alignment or the lenses are dusty — not a fault in the opener itself.

What we do: Realign and clean the beams, check the brackets have not been knocked, and test a full cycle. If the beams are fine we test the force settings before anything is replaced.

The motor runs but the door does not move

Usually: The drive gear or the carriage that connects the opener to the door has failed. The motor is doing its job and the connection is not.

What we do: Replace the drive gear or carriage with a genuine B&D part, then re-set the travel limits and re-test the door balance.

The remote only works close to the door

Usually: Usually a flat remote battery or a receiver aerial that has been tucked up out of the way during another job. Range loss is gradual, so most people do not notice until it is almost gone.

What we do: Replace the battery, reposition and extend the aerial, and re-code the remotes if the receiver has lost them.

The door feels very heavy and the opener strains

Usually: This is a door problem, not an opener problem. The springs have lost tension, and the opener is lifting weight the springs are supposed to carry.

What we do: Test the door's balance with the opener disconnected, then re-tension or replace the springs. Running an opener against unbalanced springs is what burns them out early.

It clicks but will not start

Usually: Typically the capacitor or the logic board. On older Controll-A-Door units a failed capacitor is the more common of the two.

What we do: Test the capacitor and board on site and replace the failed component rather than the whole opener wherever the unit is still supported.

It forgets its settings after a blackout

Usually: The travel limits have been lost, which older openers do after a power interruption.

What we do: Re-set the open and close limits and the force settings. If blackouts are a recurring problem on your property, a Controll-A-Door Diamond PD with battery backup avoids it entirely.

    B&D — Frequently Asked Questions

Are Limitless an authorised B&D dealer?

Yes. We are an authorised B&D dealer for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. We order direct from B&D's Queensland factory and our installers are factory-trained on the Panelift sectional and Controll-A-Door ranges.

How long does a B&D Panelift door take to install?

A standard single Panelift Icon door fitted to an existing brick opening takes our team around 3-4 hours. A double door with a new Controll-A-Door 4 opener is generally a half-day on site.

What warranty comes with B&D doors?

Panelift sectional door panels carry a 10 year structural warranty. Roll-A-Door curtains carry a 7 year warranty against rust perforation. Controll-A-Door openers carry a 5 year domestic warranty. All warranties are honoured directly through Limitless as the installing dealer.

Can you service older B&D doors that we didn't install?

Yes. We service every B&D door regardless of who installed it — including original 1990s and 2000s Roll-A-Door units. We carry genuine B&D springs, drums, axles and remote receivers in stock on the truck.

    Is B&D made in Australia?

Yes. B&D Panelift sectional doors and Roll-A-Door roller doors are manufactured in Australia from Australian-made BlueScope Colorbond steel. Some Controll-A-Door electronics are sourced from B&D's overseas manufacturing partners then assembled and tested locally.
